Galvanized steel studs and channels are lighter than equivalent timber, will not rot, twist, or harbour insects, and can be stored outdoors before installation. For Kenyan ceilings — especially under iron-sheet roofs that heat up — metal framing keeps boards straighter for years.
Quality sites specify 0.45 mm gauge or heavier for ceilings; premium jobs may use 0.5–0.6 mm for extra stiffness.
